Welcome to Daphne & Ryan's blog! We hope that through our stories and photos you can journey with us to Cambodia where we are serving with a Christian relief and development organization, Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), for 3 years.
In Cambodia our shared position is called "Partner Advisors for Capacity Development." Our hope is to live among and learn from our neighbors in Prey Veng, Cambodia while offering support to local Cambodian organizations with whom we partner. Since most people in Prey Veng province are rice farmers, these partner organizations are serving their communities through projects including food security, agriculture, irrigation, and income generation.
Our daily work includes things like helping our partners with financial management, writing reports, developing proposals to access funds from new donors, creating organizational policies, monitoring the impact of programs, talking about new project ideas, and visiting project sites to actually see the work going on. We mostly work from our office in town, and drive out by moto to our partners who are located further out in the province.
Prey Veng is one of the most populated provinces in Cambodia, but has one of the highest rates of poverty; it is located in south-east Cambodia and borders Vietnam (check out the map!). It is a flat, flat place with lots of rice paddies, lots of water during the rainy season, and a tiny tribe of monkeys that live just outside of town. We live in Prey Veng Town, the provincial capital.
MCC's Purpose: "MCC endeavors to share God's love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice."
Our term ends in February 2013. We are super appreciate of your prayers for our last year in Cambodia, our transition to whatever is next, and for little baby Fowler who should be arriving in July 2012.
Thank you for journeying with us!
